Major Cage is the press officer for the world's largest army in the greatest war humanity has ever waged, the war against the aliens who have landed on our planet. Reluctant to face the battlefield when the general sends him to the front, he refuses the assignment, and is therefore handcuffed and sent to fight as a deserter anyway, on the very day of humanity's planned massive offensive. Totally incapable of maneuvering the exoskeleton used in the early stages of battle, he destroys an alien but is left contaminated by its blood. From that moment on, every time he dies, he awakens in the same spot, at the beginning of that day as a deserter, condemned to repeat the same events over and over again. Through constant repetition, he begins to master the enemy's moves, demonstrating a skill in battle that catches the attention of another soldier who seems to have understood everything and claims he can help him.
