Taking its name from the Lumière Brothers invention of the same name, Cinématographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fill gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe will explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production. Curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome's Justin LaLiberty, each limited edition release will be housed in a specially designed, cloth-bound, media book with embossed foil titles and custom molded disc trays accompanied by a slipcase featuring newly commissioned art and an individually numbered J-card.
In Tracks (1976), Sgt Jack Falen (Dennis Hopper, Blue Velvet) returns to the US from a tour in Vietnam to transport the body of his fallen friend cross country via train, for a burial ceremony. Sitting Ducks (1980), offers a different type of road movie, with the bumbling but charming Simon (Michael Emil, Insignificance) and Sidney (Zack Norman, Romancing the Stone) leaving New York for Florida after ripping off a crime syndicate. And in Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? (1983), Eli (Michael Emil) and Zee (Karen Black, Five Easy Pieces) develop a spontaneous romance on the streets of New York City’s Upper West Side.
Henry Jaglom was one of the essential—albiet rather unheralded—voices of the New Hollywood, most known for his contributions to the BBS productions A Safe Place (1971) as writer/director and the Jack Nicholson directed Drive, He Said (1971) which he acted in alongside Bruce Dern and Karen Black. This first volume of Jaglom’s films collects three features that he made independently in the wake of A Safe Place’s success, all three written and directed by Jaglom. Cinématographe is proud to present these three films by one of the more idiosyncratic characters of American cinema, all newly restored from archival film elements and making their world blu-ray debuts.

My Lunches with Henry Jaglom - Paperback Book
By Daniel Kremer
Both a spiritual sequel to the New York Times bestseller My Lunches With Orson and an unconventional biography of an equally unconventional artist, My Lunches With Henry Jaglom is a series of constantly surprising freeform conversations between author Daniel Kremer and the independent film maverick behind Eating, Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?, Sitting Ducks, and others. In a lengthy concluding chapter, Kremer conducts a biographical inquiry into Jaglom's work. Complete with fascinating and sometimes even thrilling appendices, as well as a foreword and afterword by two of Jaglom's friends, Candice Bergen and Noah Wyle, My Lunches With Henry Jaglom is a biography that plays much like a loose, improvisatory Jaglom film-which is to say, a biography like no other.
